Autumn picnic idea

16 May

picnic

I saw this simple and rustic table setting via Sweet Paul Magazine - isn’t this a fabulous idea for Autumn outdoor picnics? I love the simplicity of the linen drapped between trees, hovering over a simple trestle table. And of course the food looks divine too!

Easter table decorating ideas

28 Mar

Easter is nearly upon us and usually I am not this organised, but thought I should make some effort this year towards Easter. Usually, I just gather the trusty linen tablecloth, simple glassware, vintage silver and fresh flowers from the garden – this year I thought I would try something new. Easter Sunday lunch is usually  a long, lazy lunch outside, lots of laughter, good food and wine and an Easter egg hunt (mainly for the adults!).

Here are two table decorating ideas I  had, with all of my own existing tableware and some ribbon I had around the house:

Country, floral, lilac and gingham: Again, with this lilac gingham ribbon, I tried to create ‘bunny ear’s for the eggs – I think if you stitched these together, they would sit better. But thought it was rather cute. My vintage floral dinner set worked perfectly with these colours and our lilac Crepe Myrtle tree outside is blosoming also. Continue reading

A weekend of baking, markets and croquet

18 Feb

Is it Monday already? Gosh, what a weekend! When we were growing up, Sunday lunch was quite a tradition. A roast was usually the meal and we would take turns each week in setting the table or helping out in the kitchen. Its been a while since we’ve had our own Sunday lunch and after this weekend, its something I want to do more of.

I picked up some great produce at the Farmers Markets on Saturday - a bucket of mixed stonefruit from a local grower, some sourdough bread, local eggs and some (dog) treats for Wilbur.

We had some friends over for lunch on Sunday and thought why not use some of those stonefruit to make a crumble. The fruit was so sweet and bursting with flavour and perfect for making a crumble. I really enjoyed pottering around the kitchen and baking – going to make it a 2013 goal to do more baking!

I saw the recipe in Donna Hay’s latest magazine, but its so simple I still remember it this morning: Continue reading

Food: a Sydney weekend

31 May

We’re driving to Sydney tomorrow for the weekend – and cannot wait! I’ve already arranged the weekend completely around where we’re going to eat, where we’ll have drinks with friends, what sales are on etc. Poor Mr B won’t have a look in edgeways until the Waratahs game on Saturday night! I use to live in Sydney and miss food/wine desperately! First stop, dinner tomorrow night at Chiswick, Woollahra – if we can get a seat! Continue reading

Recipe: French Onion Soup

25 May

Its bitterly cold and overcast outside today, and thinking of making French Onion Soup for dinner. Soup, a nice glass of Belgravia Syrah and some sourdough will be a perfect start to the weekend. Continue reading

Blog love : Everyday occassions

17 May

The wonders of Pinterest has found me a new, gorgeous lifestyle blog – I feel so relaxed and dreamy looking at the beautifuly styled images. So inspired, I’m making Lemon Curd toinght (my mum’s favourite) and will attempt a hand painted linen tea towel. I’m visiting mum for the weekend and thinking these would be perfect ‘gifts’. I love that everything is quite simple and not overly fussy. I have added this to my Blog love and sure I’ll be popping by regularly. Enjoy!
